Recording Update
During April 18-21 we recorded all tracks for the 3rd For Ruin album at Data Studios, near Tralee - 11 songs were recorded during the sessions which ran into 4 long days of recording. Pete Alcorn got the drums down in 2 days with the bass being completed on the second evening. The following day was John's rhythm guitars followed by Ronan's with some leads and harmonies tracked into the small hours of Saturday night. On Sunday we completed some clean guitar parts and all lead and backing vocals to finish off the basic tracking.
Planning to mix the album in late April and early May... more soon!

April 2013 update
Over the past month we've tracked an 11 song demo of the forthcoming 3rd (as yet untitled) FR album - the band has always recorded demos of new songs and allowed the songs to sit with us for a while. We don't play live as often as other bands do (or we'd like to), so it's a useful way for us to absorb the songs before formally recording them for an album. We did a demo like this for Last Light a few years ago and it worked well then - this demo is quite polished with all of the parts in place, so when we start recording in Data on April 18th we are going in with a clear vision of how the songs will turn out... we're looking forward to getting the tracks down for everyone to hear - some of the fastest songs we've ever written/recorded will be on this album, along with lots of memorable hooks and melodies which have always been strong in our sound.
We've spent some time on backing vocals for this album which we've never really done before, with Ronan and Pete sounding great. The drumming sounds really great on these songs - the best we've had. This album marks the formal recording debut of Ronan Hayes and Pete Alcorn with the band, both of whom have been with the band a few years now. We recorded a four-song promo 2 years ago which was Alcorn's first recording with the band - but we didn't release it (those four songs will now get their formal release on this album).
Tracklist:
Mere Mortals
Guardians
Unwinding
Absentia
The Master is Here
Death Becomes Him
The Grand Design
Liturgy
Last Light
Ad Astra
Cheers!
